BATHURST City had confidence they could still find success in Saturday’s women’s Premier League Hockey match against rivals St Pat’s even when down on attacking power.

However, they weren’t able to find a goal as Pat’s finished up 3-0 winners.

City were left short in striker options asexperienced duoCasey Bayliss andKelsey Willott weren’t available, along with rising talents Tirah Jarvis and Grace Schumacher.

City captain Kelly Baker said its been a tough season having to play with a different lineup from round to round.

“We don’t have any consistency with the team at the moment. It’s a new team every week, and has been all season, and that’s hard,” she said.

“The all-round play wasn’t as good as what we could have done, and that’s the most disappointing thing. We didn’t have the possession and build-up with the ball.”

There was plenty for City to play for in the match, including the opportunity to jump Pat’s into thirdon the ladder if they won by four or more goals.

InsteadSaints captain Kristy Ekert nailed three shots from the penalty corner to put that idea to rest.

City assistant coach Phil Baker said the team were caught out being lazy.

“We were four down, which didn’t help, but we just didn’t have control of the ball to match these guys,” he said.

“The other big thing was marking. They marked a lot tighter and we just gave them a couple of metres, doing a bit ofball-watching, and they capitalised on that well.”

City had two penalty corners to the Saints’ one in the second half, but it was Pat’s who were able to convert from the set piece.

City player-coach Lisa Quinn was a standout for her side in the second half, with several dangerous runs along the wing.

Thanks to Souths’ loss to Parkes United, City have retained fourth place on the table –holding their four-point buffer over the two blues.
