Mrs Allan said the area needed the program because it was surrounded by water and it would help the many children who lived in the region.

She started thinking about starting a nippers program 12 months ago and knows the program will help local children.

Nippers is ajunior surf life saving program that helps young children from five to 12 years of age learn lifesaving and water safety skills, make new friends, gain confidence and ultimately have fun in a safe beach environment.

Mrs Allan said people should not get lulled into a false sense of security when they swim in what they consider to a protected waters like Jervis Bay or St Georges Basin.

“Even the best swimmers can drown,” she said.

With more than 1500 school aged children in the Bay and Basin area and the closest surf club at least 30 minutes away Mrs Allen said there was a need to bring nippers to the area.

The response in the community and on social media, following over 200 positive in responses on Facebook when a post was recently posted, suggested to Mrs Allen that nippers was needed.

“Now we need people to put their hands up to help,” she said.

All interested persons are invited to attend the following community meetings – Huskisson on Thursday July 21 from 6pm at the Huskisson Beach Tourist Park Conference room or Sanctuary Point on Thursday July 28 at 3.15pm at the Sanctuary Point Public School Hall.

These meetings will provide more information on the Nippers Program and about the support/volunteers that are required to help the Bay and Basin Community Nippers to start in October this year.

The nipper program is generally only available at established surf clubs.

However, with the new Community Nipper Club format, a group of dedicated volunteers can bring nippers to the Bay and Basin area.

The Bay and Basin Community Nipper Club will follow the Surf Life Saving Australia Nipper junior activity program.

The aim is to be up and running for the 2016/2017 surf life saving season.

The Bay and Basin Community Nippers will be held opposite the Huskisson Beach Tourist Park (Sailors Beach) on Sundays from 10am to 12pm during Term Four and Term One of the School year.

If you are interested in your children becoming a nipper and or you would like to find out how you can support or volunteer to help the Bay and Basin Community Nippers please contact Colleen Allan via email: [email protected]苏州美甲美睫培训学校 or phone 0402 737 585.

The proposed club has a facebook page with continually updated information.
