Queechyonly needed the one goal todefeatDevonport in Saturday’s round of Greater Northern games.

Josie Kremerskothen was a standout for Queechy upfront as was Nic Duffy in the centre, whileBrooke Whitmore was Queechy’s lone goal scorer. The Penguins defence was strong all day and kept Devonport goalless. Devonport’s Lucy Withers and Kaylah Rataj were again pivotal in their defence, while Erin Filler was good and unlucky not to score.

West Devonport and South Burnie have lived up to their ladder positions of equal second by playing out a 0-0 draw. West defence worked relentlessly all game, continually denying South.South’s best players were Deb Davis, Jodi Lancaster and Min Sheehan, withSam Lawrence, Amee Freeman and Elise Watson in good form for West.

Smithton have defeated City Marians 1-0 in a hard-fought game.City defended extremely well, with goalkeeperAmanda Long keepingthem in game with some great saves. In the second half City upped their pressure with Fiona Jackson overlapping from fullback and Petrina Birtwistle creating space. Smithton’s Laura Korpershoek was excellent as was Leah House, but despite many scoring opportunities the Saints wereonly able to put one goal on the board, courtesy ofDarcey Smith.

South Launceston and Tamar Churinga played their game earlier in the week due to the ground being used for the National Under 18 championships, with the Suns winning 8-0.Goals were shared around many players with Joanne Brumby scoring three.
