Parkes impress beaten City

AS a coach you never like to see your side lose 11-1, but Bathurst City assistant Shane Jackman could not help but be impressed by his rivalsat Bob Roach Field on Saturday.

The way Parkes executed their attacking movements in the men’s Premier League Hockey match proved they are still a chance of forcing their way into this year’s finals series.

“They just played unreal, it was insane, it was just great to watch,” Jackman said.

“They just really executed well, they have some really, reallygood players. It was fantastic.”

Brad Gardiner finished the match with four goals, Andrew Wright bagged a brace and Andrew Bourke struck twice in the final two minutes for the visitors.

Jack Elliott scored with a penalty cornerdrag-flick, Mitch Townsend found the mark in the first half after brilliant weaving run while Luke Noblett got on the scoresheet for Parkes as well.

But as always, City found positives in defeat.

Following a good run from Mal Willott,Blake Lawson scored City’s goal with a screamer of a shot with 17 minutes of the game remaining.

While Parkes consistently caught out City with their quick transfers and counter-attacks, therewere still some goodefforts. It was typified in the dying seconds when goalkeeper Kris Grant made a double save.

“Compared to previous games the attitude was good, they didn’t get as annoyed with things as they normally do,” Jackman said.“We had some new guys come on and they were keen, prepped, pumped and really positive, which I think helped.”
