Perth and much of the state’s South West got a soaking overnight – before the hail arrived on Saturday morning.

By lunchtime on Saturday social media was carrying reports of hail across many metropolitan suburbs including Mindarie, Yanchep, Maida Vale, Forrestfield and Kalamunda.

Sheep farmers have been warned that low temperatures, rain and wind could kill sheep and lambs through exposure.

The rain started to fall around 8.30pm on Friday and by 8.30am on Saturday much of the metropolitan area had averaged more than 20mm, with Perth recording 27mm.

But Swanbourne was the wettest part of the metro area, receiving nearly 38mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology says there is more to come.

The forecast for the rest of Saturday reads: “Cloudy and nearly a 100% chance of showers, most likely during this afternoon and evening. There is also the chance of a squally thunderstorm with gusty winds and possible hail.” Plenty of rain about to affect the Northern suburbs of #Perth this morning.https://t.co/rgYVozXuykpic.twitter苏州美甲美睫培训学校/IroWwujR3O— The WA Weather Group (@TheWAWG) July 9, 2016

The maximum temperature will reach just 14 degrees.

There will also be lots of rain outside the metro area, with showers forecast for Kalgoorlie and the rest of the Goldfields as well as the Central Wheatbelt.

There could be storms in Kalbarri and across the rest of the Central West as well as in Bunbury and over the South Coastal and Great Southern regions.

More widespread showers are forecast for Sunday before they begin to ease on Monday.
