Town defeat Curry by four

ROUND 11 of theLewie Fire Premiership saw a well-fought game between Cloncurry Eagles and Town Lions with only one try separating the teams.

Town kicked off and pushed through Curry’s defense, thissaw Nathan Giles put the first points on the board. Town missed the conversion leaving the score 4-0 in the first minute of the game.

Curry were rattled leaving a hole in their defense which saw Town’s Paul Costello score at the left corner post. Town converted bumping the score to 10-0.

Ten-minutes into the game saw Curry player Brendan Baillie taken off the field due to an injury, but this did not deter Curry’s success. Kicking a 40-20, James Baira scored under the post and converted his own try to putpoints on the board for Curry, 10-6.

Town fought back with a hard tackle from James George that saw aCurry playerknocked to the ground. Curry picked back up withanother 40-20 andscrambled around Town’s defense with Jeffrey Wilson scoring in the left corner. Try was not converted,score 10-10.

Townkicked off and scrambled for the ball, Curry tried to hold them out but Justin Smith put Town ahead on 16-10 with a converted try in theright corner.

Curry player Jeffrey Wilson was at it again breaking through Town’s defensescoring in the left corner. Try was not converted, score was 16-14.

Both teams continued to share possession with no points on the board, until James Mahr from Town scored under the post on half time. Try was converted with a score of 22-14.

Curry kicked off tostart the second half. Curry’s first playlooked promisingto scorebut was pushed out of play by Town.

The ball switched possession between the two but it wasTown who regained possession and Simon Duke scored next to the post. Try was converted, score28-14.

Twentyfive minutes remaining and Curry’s James Bairascored off the back of another 40-20. The try was converted and left a score of 28-20.

It looked as though Town had lost their motivation when Curry’s Jeffery Wilson broke through Town’s defense and scored in the left corner. Curry did not convert the try, score was 28-24.

Curry continued to put pressure on Townbut a penalty in front of the postsprevailed for Town, leading 30-24.

The game heated up in the final 14minutes,with a non-converted try from Curry’sJeffrey Wilson, followed by a converted try by Town’s Adam Divine. Town leading 36-28.

Curry finished the game with Lesley Gallagher scoring with no conversion,ending the game 36-32.
